I made this for an expecting relation. It was also an exercise in making a crochet pattern which I have never done before. I am a pretty free-stylee sort of artist. I just start things and see where they go. But for this project I had a particular outcome to achieve so as I went along I kept notes on each round. I am hoping it has translated ok. I would appreciate any feedback as I would like to post up more crochet projects.
This amigurumi bunny is worked mainly in the round. The ears are straight crochet. I used regular old cheapo double knitting yarn and the gauge isn't important. He ended up being about 8 inches tall. You can make him into a baby rattle by putting in the appropriate hardware or just stuff him with your usual stuffing material.
The face and feets were stitched with cotton embroidery floss.
Remember if it is going to be for a very young child you shouldn't use beads or anything like that on the outside because they are a choking hazard. And double stitch the ears on so they are good and secure for the same reason.

Fasten off
Ears (Make two)
Chain 9
Row 1
8 sl, ch 1, turn
Row 2
8 sl in each sl of row 1, 1 sl in the loop between the 1st and 2nd rows at the end of the row, ch 1, turn (there should be 9 sl)
Row 3
9 sl, ch 1, turn
Row 4
7 sl and fasten off leaving about 10” tail of yarn
Finish the ear by threading the tail up the remainder of row four and then down the starting edge (first row of chains). Pull slightly to give it shape.
Attached to the head using the rest of the tail of yarn.
*Making the Rattle Insert
To make the rattle you will need a small light hollow plastic container that can be separated into halves (I used the toy container from a Kinder Egg although I am sure that you could get some kind of purpose made thing), a bell or some beads (I repurposed a few links from a jingly anklet I had around), 8 inches of strong gauge fishing line, and a needle.
Take your bell or beads or what ever and string them on the fishing line such that they hang in the middle of the length. You will have two lengths of line either side.
Poke two holes at the top of one half of your container. Thread each length of line through a hole from the inside and tie a tight knot on the outside of the container so that your beads or whatever hang down.

Make sure that when they hang down on the inside that they have room to move and won’t touch the other end of your container when you put it back together. If they do then it won’t make as nice a noise, especially if you use a bell.
Put the container back together and your rattle is done.
(I hate that I have to write this but: please don't copy this pattern and sell it or sell anything made using it. That would be harsh and also against copyright law)
